In this case, the HDDs were far below the standard of the rest of the equipment. This means that the company wasted several thousand pounds on technology which may not work optimally. And because of their integration with the HDDs, they could not be swapped out without rebuilding the entire server. They had paid for a £15,000 server and accepted advice from someone, who while being good in most areas of IT, was not a server specialist. That resulted in a server which worked as well as a comparable server worth £2,000. Without specialist instruction, small oversights like this can have huge implications.
